It has been just about 3 weeks that I have spent here in England and in a couple days I will be back home. I am sitting here at a coffee shop and started to think of all the adventures I had to take to get me here. I have had another eye opening experience in a different culture here. Every culture I visit I gain that much more insight to this beautiful world. Though England has plenty of similarities to America, it has plenty of differences. I find myself speaking English phrases that I wouldn't normally say and find myself in awe of the architect here. This country has so much history that I admire! I have spent time in the north and south and got to see very different environments. England is great to visit, but I could never see myself living here. This place has made me realize that I thrive best in cultures that are completely spontaneous and full of character/ life. I love being surrounded by people that smile constantly, laugh at everything, and are positively intrigued by peoples' different backgrounds. Every place I visit I leave a piece of myself at every destination. It's like I am in a relationship with many different countries and find myself leaving with a different perspective than with what I started with. I am in love with traveling, so it is the best relationship a girl can ask for ;).
I love traveling... but I love the spontaneous adventures that come with it. When people ask me what my plan is for my travels I don't have an answer because I don't want to expect anything. I don't want to be a tourist, but a traveler. There is a big difference between the two. Being a traveler forces you to experience the culture in a way that the locals would want you to experience it. The moments when you find yourself completely lost from the course intended are the ones that bring the most adventure. When I visited London I decided I wanted to visit the famous abbey road that the Beatles made famous. I had not done my research and we just jumped on the underground to the abbey road we saw on our map. Little did we know that we were headed for the wrong abbey road and had taken the underground quite out of the way to find it. When we got there we discovered our mistake and decided to head back the same route. As we were waiting for the train we had a journalist come up to us and asked if we were looking for the abbey road that the Beatles made famous. He explained that he had been spending the whole day looking for tourists who commonly make the same mistake. He had no luck for his story and was on his way home when he ran into us. "Another persons bad luck is another persons good luck" is what he said to us. It may have been bad luck for us, but he got the story he wanted from us as we represented the lost tourists in search of a bit of history. Apparently one of the bar owners say about 10 to 20 people a day make this mistake. We will be featured in a newspaper article and it made for a great getting lost story.
I have had a great time learning from England, but I am ready to go home and enjoy thanksgiving with my friends and family. Next destination: Dominican Republic :) stay tuned. Xoxo
