In the summer of 2011 I took a life changing adventure living in Brazil. Now... thanks to my incredible experience in Brazil, I have continued my adventures, turning this blog into a blog about my travels and what new things life will bring me. Soccer being the main drive in my adventures. Enjoy :)

Bay to Breakers

What an eventful day!!! The Bay to Breakers run is a 12k (7.46 miles) through the city of San Fran. Here is a map of what the race course looks like...

There was mostly slight inclines, but there was one portion that was a big hill, so it was mostly pretty even ground. This was the first 12k I have ran and man did I feel great afterwards! The original plan was to meet up with my host family in the morning, since they were staying in the city for the night, but with the mass amount of people they decided the night before that it would be impossible. Sooo... I decided to go all on my own. I found my way to the city on the bart (train) and just followed all the crazy costumes to the starting line. The race began at 7:00am and I started running at 7:18. There were CRAZY costumes and, yes, I did see many naked men (some women). It was the most entertaining run that I have ever been on and since I went earlier there were a lot more people that were actually running it. The later times were populated more with the party crowds, but still a crazy party early in the morning. I finished the race with a few minutes over an hour, which was exciting. The most exciting part was that I was not tired the whole race, except the hill was a tad tiring. Let me tell you though, my muscles feel every bit of that race! It was for sure worth the experience and what a great way to get people to run. Here are some pictures I took while running...

Finished and went up on the hill...

I decided it was necessary for me to share one of the many sights that I got to witness, your welcome.

Here is a video to give you an idea of how entertaining this race was=

Alright. For the most adventurous part of my day... it took a very unexpected turn. I didn't want to pay for a shuttle to get back to the bart station, so I decided to walk to the closest bart station. Let me rephrase this, what I thought was CLOSE. I had only 5 dollars and a credit card. Not knowing that I was actually walking to a cable car (only takes cash), I spent my 5 dollars at the starbucks. Well... there went my only bus money. After an already long walk, I realized that I had not walked to a bart station and I just gave up the only cash I had. Thank goodness for my smart phone or I would still be wandering around the city. The closest bart station was over an hour walk away (over 3 miles). I explored atm options only to conclude that my credit card can't take money out of the atm, only debit cards can. So... my next option... taxi. Right?... wrong. Apparently taxi's are impossible to get in San Francisco and a complaint that many of the locals have. Finally, after many failed attempts at transportation I had to accept the fact that walking was my only option. I was already sore and had many steep hills to climb up, but it ended up being worth it to see some more sights of the city. I ended up walking over 7 miles alone after a 12k run. My feet need recovery to say the least. However, that is not possible because tomorrow is fitness. Haha. It truly was a humorous ordeal of a day because over and over again I made unlucky decisions. All I could do is laugh and learn from this, but man have I learned my lesson! A few pictures from my walk...

The night ended with a relaxing family dinner and the kids and I took a walk to the beach.
